Portraits of America's Volunteer Firefighters.


Firefighters are the unsung local heroes of every community. They protect our towns and cities, risk their lives, and give up their free time when the alarm sounds. Nice email today from a fellow photographer: “I recently saw a spot on the ASMP newsletter about your book “Local Heroes”.  My Son Craig, was  a volunteer for many years before finally getting a chance to be on full time with the Denver Fire Dept.  I didn’t hesitate to make the purchase for his upcoming Birthday… I appreciate your dedication to those who serve taking all the risk with no financial reward. I purchased health insurance for my Son while he was in the volunteer mode. Can you believe that he was working as a volunteer in one of the wealthiest communities in the Chicagoland area and wasn’t even provided with insurance. He could have been seriously injured and at best would have only received a thank you. I’m glad he finally  got on a regular department with full benefits.
